Training Teachers in Kericho and Mautuma

In early March we traveled to Kericho to train almost fifty teachers from five Free Methodist schools. Spending a week with them allowed us to cover several topics in-depth with a big focus upon understanding our biblical role as teachers. We also spent a lot of time discussing the important role critical thinking plays in the development of future leaders. While the group was large we enjoyed the interaction with these teachers immensely!

In April we spent a couple of days working with teachers from Umoja Academy – just about a 30 minute drive from Kipkaren. While in Kericho this school wrote an action plan based on servant leadership and has gone at it with great heart. When we met with them we worked with both the teachers and their school board to develop a picture of what student outcomes they desired for exiting students after they completed grade 8.

The months ahead hold lots of promise for us. As Free Methodist schools reopen for their second term we hope to begin the next important phase of our ministry – mentoring teachers one on one as they begin implementing new teaching methods in their classrooms.
