“When will you bring us something good?”

Steve asked Mark this question with a joking tone. Mark, familiar, with Steve and his antics from spending two months alongside him as our Kenyan home was being constructed thought immediately of what most guys think about – food. Steve, a Kenyan national ‘fundi’ (laborer) often enjoyed the little treats that Mark brought to the construction team as they labored together. Mark spent many hours hanging out with the guys during the day, learning how things are done here in a world without power tools and construction equipment, joking with them and sharing thoughts during lunch.

“When will you bring us something good?” Steve asked Mark this week as he visited the work crew as they worked on the interior of the social hall at the Kipkaren Children’s Home. Mark decided to joke back. “I’ll bring Magellan with me the next time I visit you” – Magellan in our dog and well loved by the work crew. “No”, Steve gently replied, “When will you bring us something good?” Mark thought and still didn’t get Steve’s question. “Remember when we were working on your house – and you brought us the Word of God every day? When are you bringing us something good?”

How encouraging to know that God is identified with goodness for a group of men who don’t normally attend church….and that Mark has the blessing of showing them the goodness of God!

“How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Through Your precepts I get understanding,
Therefore I hate every false way.
Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:103-105
